The Android ecosystem has a ton of apps for your tablet, and a number of apps are optimized for larger screens. Sometimes this means you get extra functionality without having to navigate through submenus, while other times it might mean that you simply have more screen real estate for bigger photos and interfaces that require scrolling. Whether you've got a Google Nexus 9 or plan on splurging for a Lenovo Yoga Tab 3 Pro , Google's app marketplace has a solid software selection for both productivity and plain old fun. From sleek UI launchers to hot games, here are our 25 favorite Android tablet apps.

Monument Valley ($3.99) Monument Valley by usTwo is, by far, one of the best games on Android. Players take on the role of the silent princess Ida, who must traverse through a puzzle of seemingly impossible worlds (10 in total) filled with optical illusions that you must solve to progress. Monument Valley is the kind of game that messes with your mind (in a good way) as you try to figure out where to go next. It's an incredibly immersive experience that you'll want to play on the biggest screen you can find; its art alone is well worth the $3.99.

An Android tablet is a great device for kicking back and reading long articles and watching videos, but maybe you don't want to view them this very second. Pocket is a great app to store that media for later. When you use the app in conjunction with a browser extension, you can send news articles, YouTube clips, photo galleries or any other page on the Internet to your Pocket (and access them on any device). It’s an easy, free way to keep track of all of the media you want to consume on your tablet. While the interface is identical to the phone app, the reading experience is better; you can fit more words on the screen.

In their Editors' Choice award-winning Android security suite Bitdefender Mobile Security and Antivirus , Bitdefender offers top-notch malware protection and excellent anti-theft support. But what if you don't think you need malware protection in the first place? Then let me introduce you to Bitdefender Anti-Theft (free, $3.95/year) which has all of the features that will keep your Android safe from thieves for a third the cost of the full-blown security suite.

Setting Up
In every report I've seen from independent testing labs, malware detection rates for most Android security apps hover between 96 and 100 percent . That's fantastic for users, but it means that what differentiates most security apps is the other features they include. Anti-theft is the most important , and successful apps do well in this category by combining ease of use and strong features.

Setup with Bitdefender Anti-Theft was quick and painless, and included the option to create an account with Bitdefender using your Google account—a feature I really appreciate. Like other anti-theft apps, Bitdefender requires that you set up your device before it's stolen. If that's already happened , look to Android Device Manager or Plan B if you're using an older droid.

Tablets seem almost tailor made to play Android games. Their larger screen sizes allow you to enjoy the graphics more and it allows the controls and mechanics to spread out over a wider area which gives you more control. There are a variety of games that are great on both tablets and phones, but there are others that are just plain better on tablets. Let’s take a look at the best Android tablet games!

When it comes to gaming on a larger screen, Anomaly 2 has it all. Great graphics, a good story, and controls that translate well to the big screen. If your tablet happens to be packing a Tegra K1 (Nexus 9, Shield Tablet) then you’ll have an even better graphical experience. Anomaly 2 is a hybrid tower offense / tower defense game with online multiplayer capabilities and a highly regarded single player mode. There is a lot of content with a decent price tag and no in-app purchases.

We grouped these three games together because they were all released by the same developer (Beamdog). All three titles are huge, immersive RPGs that were ported from PC to Android in 2014. They feature very long stories with complex game play and are sure to keep you busy for months upon months. The control schemes are also quite complex and the larger tablet screens makes that much easier to deal with. Each game is $9.99 and are complete ports of the original games.
