Mobile Suit Gundam ( 機動戦士ガンダム , Kidō Senshi Gandamu ? , Mobile Warrior Gundam) is a 1979 anime television series created by Yoshiyuki Tomino and Hajime Yatate . Yoshikazu Yasuhiko did the character designs and Kunio Okawara was responsible for the mechanical designs, including the titular giant robot, the RX-78-2 Gundam . It started the Gundam metaseries and Real Robot genre of mecha anime. The series was later re-edited for theatrical release, and split into three movies.

It is the year Universal Century 0079, and the space colonies have declared war on the Earth Federation under the guidance of the Principality of Zeon . In one of these colonies, the Earth Federation is storing and testing a new piloted robot for use in the battle against the Principality of Zeon.

The experimental RX-78 Gundam mobile suit is forced into combat with a civilian pilot and an untested crew before it can be transported to the Federation's HQ on Earth. With few resources available against the Zeon's brightest and best, will they be able to escape, let alone deliver the RX-78 to Earth? [1]

This was the final series of the three-year deal signed by Simon Cowell in 2010, [3] before it was announced by ITV on 15 November that the show's contract was extended by a further three years, keeping it on air until 2016. [4]

It was reported on 22 February 2013 that Tulisa would not return for series 10, after being a judge for two series. [5] She initially denied this and said she wanted to return, [6] However, Tulisa confirmed on 21 May after months of speculation that she would not return to the judging panel. The following day, it was confirmed that former judge Sharon Osbourne , who had been on the panel from series 1 to series 4 would join the remaining three judges from series 9 , Louis Walsh , Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger , ending rumours that Scherzinger may leave to focus on her second studio album and be replaced by series 9 guest judge Mel B . [7] [8] [9]

Osbourne stated in July that she was back for just one series, "to go out on a high", [10] and during the first live show, Barlow revealed that this would be his last series on the show. [11] Walsh, who has appeared on the show since its inception, announced he would be leaving the show after this series as well, stating that he wanted his "life back", [12] although he later said he "might come back" if Simon Cowell returned, [13] and later still he said he would most likely continue, claiming "I'm having so much fun this year, I might stay". [14] Walsh eventually confirmed his return for series 11 , following the returns of both Cowell and Cheryl .
